Who are the Real Avatars?

By Susan Sabra

The new artificial intelligence (AI) application of creating avatars is taking social media by a storm. Like any new technology, it is debated and described as a double-edged sword. I could not help but share my thoughts on this, as I approach it from both perspectives: as an artificial intelligence designer by study and research and as a spiritual mystic seeker by choice of awakening.

The age of AI is just dawning on us as a prime factor of our daily life activities whether we are aware of it or not. AI has been around for many years but now it has reached us on an individual and personal level: from smart homes to smart phones, and personalized applications in numerous ways of life.

But this new AI avatar creator can be viewed as a duality. First, it is a beautiful art as an outcome of the marriage between biology and digital technologies. But we need to stop and ask what is the real purpose of such applications? Is it an algorithm making the creation of our images a reality? Are we becoming the creators of the images we perceive ourselves to be or wish to be? This also can be taken positively as well as negatively in a psychological analysis.

The capabilities of technologies will not stop at creating our new “look/identity” which will blend in well with the idea of the Metaverse and the virtual life that as humanity, we are being manipulated to go towards. This is a clear attempt to alienate us from reality and nature. We are already avatars in human flesh, so why we are digging ourselves one level deeper in the illusion? It is something that resembles the movie Inception.

An avatar, which is a Sanskrit word, means descent. It is a manifestation of a deity in a bodily form on Earth. The word “avatar” is becoming a hype, in particular after the movies of James Cameron who conveyed the higher meaning of the word through connecting with nature and our higher selves. However, the imaging application is diminishing the powerful meaning that the word holds by deviating the objective to a mere wishful look as if we are only identified by how we look in our physical body. We rely on an application to make us look in a certain way while we ignore our real power to be what we want with the power of intention. This is the secret of our godly flame within, that the illusive life and controlling schemes are trying to extinguish.

Look for the flame within and revive it!
